This is Not an Easy Task.

Unfortunately, the government has made this VERY difficult because of this new law that went into effect on July 1, 2007, that MANDATES the use of these flame retardant chemicals in ALL consumer mattresses, including crib mattresses.

There are no exceptions to this law. If you purchase a crib mattress anywhere in the United States, it is 100% certain that it will contain these flame retardant chemicals in them…regardless of what the label says, or what the manufacturer tells you.

That’s because there are NO labeling requirements and manufacturers are not legally obliged to tell you what is in their mattresses.

(However, you are one of the lucky parents who has come across this website, because I will inform you of a ‘loophole’ in this new law that will allow you to purchase a 100% chemical and toxin free crib mattress, but you will need a Dr. prescription. And don’t worry, I will provide that for you.

But first, here is what you need to know about this issue…)

Toxic Gases in Crib Mattresses Can Cause SIDS.
This is known as The Toxic Gas Theory.

Dr. James Sprott’s research suggests that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is NOT a medical condition or an illness, or a case of bad genetics. He states that it is an environmental case of toxic poisoning from mattress chemicals...and it CAN be prevented!

In fact, he has a 100% success rate in preventing SIDS, using a little known ‘mattress wrapping’ technique that prevents the flame retardant chemicals from coming in contact with the baby.

Consider these FACTS:

SIDS started in the 1940 - 1950’s…at around the same time crib mattresses worldwide were treated with chemicals to make them fireproof.

SIDS only occurs in “Westernized” countries (where they have fireproof crib mattresses) . It is virtually unheard of in third world countries where they don’t fire proof mattresses.

NO Baby has EVER died of SIDS when sleeping on a mattress that has been properly shielded from these chemicals.

Dr. James Sprott has a 100% success rate in preventing SIDS, simply by shielding a newborn baby from being exposed to flame retardant chemicals in their mattress. This is known as ‘mattress wrapping’ and is 100% effective at preventing SIDS.

What are the Flame Retardant Chemicals that are used in Crib Mattresses?

There are many types of fire proofing systems that are being used today. Many involve Boric Acid (the active ingredient in roach killer) , which can be quite toxic to humans. In addition to that, there are three very common fire proofing chemicals that are found in crib mattresses:

1- Antimony 2- Phosphorus 3- Arsenic These three chemicals are potentially very poisonous by themselves, but when they combine with a simple household fungus (that often lives in crib mattresses) known as Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, they produce a combination of deadly hydride gases, that are known as

1- Stibines 2- Phosphines, 3- Arsines, respectively.

Now, these three gases share one significant feature: They are EXTREMELY toxic and deadly to humans! In fact, they are 100X more poisonous than hydrogen cyanide, and 1,000X more poisonous than Carbon Monoxide, according to Dr. James Sprott.

In fact, he states that the toxicity of these gases is nearly identical to Sarin Nerve Gas, which has the potential to kill thousands of people within minutes. The degree of toxicity of these gases is almost beyond mental comprehension.

In fact, when Dr. Sprott examined the mattresses of infants that succumbed to SIDS, he found three recurring patterns, over and over again:

1) ALL the mattresses were infected with the fungus, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, and 2) ALL of the mattresses were emitting these deadly ‘nerve gases’ mentioned above, and 3) Autopsies and blood samples of the SIDS infants revealed signs of toxic poisoning.. In other words, these were deadly mattresses….and were responsible for causing SIDS.

Just How lethal are these Gases?

To put it in perspective, if you had an aerosol canister filled with these gases, and depressed the nozzle for 1/1,000 of a second in the same room as a baby, that would render a dose that would be lethal to that baby!

These “nerve gases” are formed in minute quantities in these chemically treated mattresses, and accumulate just a few inches above the surface of the crib mattress, where they are breathed in by innocent babies (especially those laying face down)

This happens when the flame retardant chemicals mentioned above combine with the fungus and produce the nerve gases. These are known as “anti-cholinesterase” agents.

In fact, this is why the “Back to Sleep” program has been moderately successful at preventing SIDS…because it keeps a baby’s mouth and nose further away from breathing in these chemicals. But it is NOT 100% successful in preventing SIDS.

And if a baby breathes in even a small amount of these nerve gases, a catastrophic chain reaction can occur, which can often have deadly consequences.

In fact, these gases can interfere with and shut down a baby’s breathing and heart functions within seconds, by stopping the transfer of nerve impulses from the brain to the heart and lungs.

If this were to happen, a baby can succumb in literally minutes…and simply stop breathing. Because it happens so quickly, it often leaves no trace. This leaves doctors, scientists, and devastated parents all clueless…how a healthy little baby’s life can end so quickly and dramatically.

Why Hasn’t Anyone Told You This Before?

I’m not sure.

The evidence is very compelling, but yet, there still seems to be a LOT of skepticism and opposition.

In the 50 years that Doctors and researchers have been trying to find a cause for SIDS, they have not found one. Some blame premature infant lungs. Some blame faulty genetics. Others suspect cigarette smoke. But only a small handful of keen researchers have pinpointed the cause to flame retardant chemicals in crib mattresses.

And even though they have a 100% success rate in preventing SIDS by shielding crib mattresses with a protective covering…still, very few are listening….and SIDS continues to claim 3,000 innocent lives every year…

But SIDS Can Be Prevented…If You Choose To…
It all depends on who are you going to believe.

The majority of the medical establishment and almost all SIDS groups and associations do NOT believe in the Toxic Gas Theory. They don’t believe that SIDS is caused by flame retardant chemicals in crib mattresses. And yet…

With all their 50 years of ‘knowledge’ about SIDS, they have not been able to prevent SIDS from happening. In fact, it happens, on average, about 9 times every day (that’s 3,000 SIDS deaths every year in America)

And Dr. James Sprott and his team of researchers have proven that not even ONE baby has been lost to SIDS when they are shielded from these toxic flame retardant chemicals with a special mattress covering.

Look it up online. It’s absolutely true.

But yet, in spite of this 100% success rate, most of the medical ‘establishment’ chooses not to believe it. Maybe they think it has to be more complicated than just mattress chemicals…I don’t know.

So, as I said, it depends on who you choose to believe.

3,000 infants lost to SIDS every year by following the conventional medical ‘wisdom’

Most rational and unbiased parents would choose to believe the former…myself included.

But Isn’t Fireproofing Necessary?

Yes, fireproofing your home is important.

But not crib mattresses. Babies spend 12-16 hours every night and day sleeping on their mattress, and this should be a safe and clean environment for them. If you want to be cautious, make sure you have a working smoke alarm in your baby’s room, and just use common sense. Don’t put a kerosene heater in your babies room. (Most mattress fires are caused by people smoking in bed…which shouldn’t be a concern for a newborn baby!)

Do Not Reuse an OLD Crib Mattress…it’s MORE Dangerous than a New One.

Many crib mattresses have been treated with flame retardant chemicals for the last 10 years…so even if you use an older mattress, it is HIGHLY likely it will contain flame retardant chemicals.

Plus, the research is VERY clear on this issue: The risk of SIDS increases if you reuse an older mattress...and here is why.

The fungus, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, has likely already been established in an older mattress, and it can become active VERY easily. When this happens, it will react with the flame retardant chemicals and start to produce the deadly nerve gases even quicker.

In fact, according to Dr. James Sprott’s research, the risk of SIDS is almost 3 times higher with an older mattress, than with a new mattress.

As you can see from the chart above, the risk of SIDS increases as parents reuse an older mattress. There is a higher SIDS rate from child #1, to child #2, to child #3, etc. This is because the fungus, S. Brevicaulis, has already been established in an older mattress, and can begin producing the deadly hydride gases sooner, and more of it.

For this reason, it is extremely important that you do NOT reuse an older mattress. It becomes more 'deadly' the more it is used. A new crib mattress, free of any toxic flame retardant chemicals, is the wisest choice.

Organic Mattresses May Not Be Safer

Organic mattresses (made from cotton or wool) still have to comply with the new federal fire proof laws of July 1, 2007 …and hence, they contain flame retardant chemicals. They have to…it’s a federal law.

Because of this, even organic wool and organic cotton can contain high levels of phosphorus, antimony, and even arsenic, and other flame retardants.

Keep in mind, it is these chemicals which interact with the mattress fungus, Scopulariopsis brevicaulis, which can produce the deadly nerve gases.

If you are going to buy an organic crib mattress, it is virtually certain that it will contain some kind of flame retardant barrier or system...even if the label doesn’t state as such. Remember, the labeling laws do not require the manufacturers to list what chemicals they put inside their mattresses.

There is no such this thing as naturally flame resistant wool or cotton. That’s just wishful thinking.

So, it is VERY difficult to know what, or who to believe…

Is There a Solution to These Mattress Chemicals?

Actually, the solution is VERY simple.

Remember, I mentioned earlier about a ‘loophole’ that will allow anyone to purchase a crib mattress that has NOT been chemically treated with flame retardants?

Yes, this is true. And here it is.

The Federal fireproof laws state that while ALL consumer mattresses MUST be flame retardant, they did allow for anyone to be exempt from this law…if they chose to do so.

In other words, anyone is allowed to bypass this law, if they can obtain a Dr. Prescription stating such.

And if they can find a mattress manufacturer who will make this kind of ‘exempt’ mattress with no flame retardant chemicals.

This is not easy to do.

In fact, to my knowledge, there is ONLY one mattress manufacturer who will still make these kinds of ‘exempt’ mattresses.
